Just over 2 weeks remain to the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. Lately, I have been thinking a lot about what defines us and makes us who we are. How do we as athletes want to be remembered 30 years from now? I have recognized only a handful of meaningful races remain in my competitive running career. One of those races will go down on Oct 10th in the Windy City. Chicago presents itself as an opportunity to achieve legendary status or it is a wasted chance.  I have remained in this sport for as long as I have for many reasons including wanting to be like the heroes that raced before me. Etching your name in the history books next to the men you looked up to is an alluring proposition.

The current 4 day training block might be the most difficult stretch of time in the lead up to the marathon. On Wednesday we had 4 x 2 miles at 7300ft and tomorrow we come back with a 15 mile temp run. The workout Wednesday was solid but didn't impress all that much. Its more important to keep everything under control rather than digger yourself a grave you cant climb out of.  The last two longer tempos both have progressed upon each other and did a lot to grow our confidence. I want the 15 mi tempo on Saturday to just be steady and not leave my race out on Lake Mary Rd.

In other news, my sister, father, and two of my current roommates all had birthdays recently and its been all positives, all the time around here.  In addition, the Steelers are off to a 2-0 start which pleases me with Big Ben on the side lines. I think we can all agree that Troy Polamalu has been the game changer and keeping the club out of the loss column.

Let you know how Lake Mary goes...
