The first week of August brings the Eastern States Cross Country held on the campus of Millersville University.  I try to make the annual voyage back to Lancaster County to influence HS kids about the benefits of athletics, the places running can take you, and the people you meet.  Wins all around. I landed in Philly at 2am on Aug 2nd. I crashed at th hotel airport and the next morning practiced my running around the philly airport. I actually found a crushed limestone loop which was a pleasant surprise.

New Balance was kind enough to donate loads of equipment and miscellaneous product to the campers. A very kind and positive gesture. The other counselors tried to intimidate me and freak me out about public speaking in front of the 220 campers.Anyone who says they dont get mildly nervous about public speaking is lying. It was nerve racking and Im no Tony Robbins but i got through it and was pure reward.

While in Pennsylvania, I remembered what its like to train in high humidity and swamp ass climates. After every session, I could wring the sweat out of my split shorts. Not good. Thankfully I only had two sessions in the 5 days I was in PA. A hill session and an 8 mile steady state run. Sometimes the humidity is more stifling than running at altitude. While on the campus of Millersville University, I had the pleasure of rooming with Mr. Steve Koons. The XC coach at Hershey HS.  Koonsy is extremly sound and brings the positive culture of HS running to a whole new level.

After camp, I had a final day in Boulder before starting training camp in Flagstaff AZ and prepping for the Chicago Marathon. I cant wait to feel my toes on the line on 10-10-10.
